Speakers

11:00am: Tonia L. Carrier, “The Hows and Whys of Veganism”
1:00pm: Dr. Joel Kahn, “America’s Healthy Heart Doc”
Food Wars: Plants Victorious
The fact that the optimal diet for humans is still hotly debated indicates how difficult nutrition science is to perform and how deep rooted eating patterns are in people’s psyche. The noise of the discussion has gotten louder in the last year with an all meat diet making headlines. Yet, the amount of science indicating the health benefits, planetary advantage, and obvious kindness to animals for plant diet, is breathtaking. The hot diet plans will be discussed and the latest data presented.

3:00pm: Lauren Edwards, Animal Rescue
Lauren Edwards owns three Pet Valu franchises and is the president and founder of Moggy’s Mission. She is very active in the rescue community in Windsor and Essex County, working with and hosting adoptathons at her stores for many of the local rescue groups. In 2017 Lauren rescued a 4 day old lamb and it inspired her to start Charlotte’s Freedom Farm - a farm sanctuary for rescued farm animals. Charlotte’s is home to over 65 animals, many with special needs. Lauren will speak about her journey to veganism, starting Charlotte’s Freedom Farm and the animals on the farm and in the industry.”
